A DANCING HEART PRESENTATION
This is a benefit concert inspired by a little Afghan girl. Here is her story:
When she was 4 years old, Jwandune was a victim of a drone dropped on her family’s car as they were driving. All of her family members (her parents, her siblings, and a couple of cousins) were killed in the bombing. Jwnadune survived, though not without serious injuries. Her eyes were completely blown out of her head and part of her nose as well. She also lost one hand. At the time, the press called her ’the girl without a face’. Jwandune is now an amazing 8 year old girl with a beautiful voice and high intelligence. She is fluent in English and Pashtoon and has many other talents. She has had many surgeries to rebuild her nose and to implant artificial eyes so she will look more presentable. Right now they are exploring the possibility of an artificial hand for her. Her excellent natural instincts help her to navigate her world, often much better than her ‘seeing’ companions do! She so badly wanted to play a musical instrument like her adopted siblings but it seemed there was no instrument one could play with a single hand. I was wrong, she is now taking piano lessons … Ask me sometime about her skiing.
